Leon Caldwell Jones was born in the Oak Grove Community March 23, 1924 at the home of his grandfather, the late J.W. Fikes. He died in the same community where he lived his entire life November 29, 2015 after a year long battle with cancer. He attended school and was educated at Norris School, graduated from Lake High School, and attended East Central Junior College until he returned to take over the family farm. He continued to farm, be active in the farm, until his death. He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church for 75 years, serving as deacon, until the church closed in 2011. He then moved his membership to First Baptist Church at Lake, where attended faithfully as long as his health permitted.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Ruth Jones, and his wife Merl Madden Jones. They loved each other exclusively for 66 years. Also preceding him in death are his siblings: Eva McCormick, John Wesley Jones, and his twin sister: Lavonne Bates.

Mr. Jones is survived by two sons: Carl W. (Ann) Jones of Pontotoc and Ted (Nelda) Jones of Lake; two grandchildren: Amy (Brian) Wilkins of Pontotoc and Bailey Jones of Lake; three great-grandchildren: Tyler, Allie, and Sadie Wilkins, all of Pontotoc; one first cousin: Barbara Donahoe of Clinton; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bailey Jones, Brian Wilkins, Morgan Madden, Wes Madden, Billy Joe Lott, Danny Harrison, Noble Lee, and Byron Hollingsworth.
