Lindsey Canoy Weaver

June 30, 1967 — September 7, 2014

Lindsey Canoy Weaver, 47, a resident of Forest died Sunday, September 7, 2014 at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson.

Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Morton.

Rev. Eugene Banes of High Hill United Methodist Church in Lake, and Dr. Stan D. Davis, BSU Director at Pearl River Community College will be officiating. Music for the service will be provided by Myra Wingo, pianist, Emily Baker, cello, and Joel Hill, vocalist.

Burial will follow in the Sims Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 - 8 P.M. on Monday, September 8, 2014 and Tuesday from 10 A.M. - 2 P.M. at Ott and Lee Funeral Home.

Canoy graduated from Morton High School and continued his education at East Central Junior College receiving his Associate of Arts Degree in 1987. He furthered his education at the University of Southern Mississippi receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1989 and his Masters of Library Science Degree in 1991.

Canoy was a well-beloved teacher serving the children of Forest Elementary School and Forest High School, an accumulation of 18 years from 1996 – 2014. He worked at the Choctaw Tribal Schools as the Library Media Specialist for 6 years from 1990-1996. He also worked as an adjunct librarian for many years at East Central Community College.

Canoy had a passion for music and learned to play the piano by ear at an early age. He enjoyed sharing his love for playing the piano at High Hill Methodist Church in Lake as the pianist. His favorite Christian music to play on the piano was traditional hymns and his favorite Christian artist was Amy Grant. He was an avid music, book, and movie collector ranging over many different genres. He was equally passionate about his work with the Forest Municipal School District, which is reflected in the plethora of love and concern shown by his colleagues and former students. He anticipated his return to work with his cherished friends and students and this hope kept his spirits up in countless days.

Canoy was a member of the American Library Association, the Mississippi Library Association, the Association of College and Research Libraries, the American Association of School Librarians, and Mississippi Professional Educators.

Mr. Weaver was preceded in death by his mother: Alice Lindsey Weaver and his niece: Allison Lindsey Chesnut, and is survived by his father: Kavanaugh P. Weaver of Morton; one sister: Carman F. Weaver of Morton; one nephew: Robert Lynn Chesnut of Morton; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Serving and honoring Mr. Weaver as pallbearers will be Joey Weaver, Tony Eichelberger, Mike Stroud, Brian Lindsey, Randy Lindsey, Rickey Ballard, Ivan Kiani, and Benny Soto.

Services are entrusted to the care of Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
