On Saturday, August 12, 2023, in the early morning hours, Lola Dean Brown Kelly passed away at Woodland Court Care Facility in Newton, MS. Mrs. Lola passed away at the age of 86 following a short illness.
She was born on May 10, 1937 in Conehatta, MS to Kyle Andrew Brown and Nina Elma French Brown. Being the 5th child of 6, she was preceded in death by her parents, Kyle Andrew Brown and Nina Elma French Brown; her loving husband, Bobby Kelly; sister, Martha Lou Brown Nation; brother, Benny John Brown; brother, James Clifton Brown; Brother, William Lester Brown; and son, Monty Joe Kelly.
She is survived by her sister, Linda “Jackie” Brown Gibbs and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Also survived by son, Mike Kelly; daughter, Maranda Pessin; son, Mark Kelly; granddaughter, Brandy Woods Anderson (Billy); grandson, Jesse Woods (Shena); granddaughters: Heather Kelly (Chris Eakes), Amber Wilson (Steven), Candice Kelly; great granddaughters: Rikki Parker (Phillip), Caitlyn Clark, Nova Grace Eakes, Kaily Bell, Taylor Bell, Makayla Wilson, Kinsley Cole Woods, Alyssa Elle Woods, Abigail Jon Woods, Isabella Mave Woods; great grandson, Damon Wilson
And Grand fur-baby, Elvis, who was a regular visitor of Ms. Lola at the Woodland Court Care Facility. Elvis knew where Grandma’s room was or where she liked to sit in the hallway, and as soon as the front door opened Elvis was on a mission to find Grandma Lola.
Mrs. Lola graduated from Conehatta High School in 1955. She worked at Sunbeam Plant, then Sara Lee Bakery. She retired in 1997 to enjoy living a simple life.
Mrs. Lola loved flowers and garage sales. Most Saturdays she was a regular customer at yard sales and thrift shops. Her purchases were shared with others. Giving to others was her way to spread joy.
Working in her yard was another of her joys in life. Many a person passed by her house to see her bent over tending to her flower beds.
Lola Brown married Bobby Savell Kelly on January 29, 1954. For 45 years she and Bobby lived in the Goodhope area until his death in 2000.
Mrs. Lola was an active member of the Lake Norris Quilting group for many years until Parkinson’s Disease started taking a toll on her life. She was a social butterfly as she loved attending any church, bank, or community event. She was an active member of Goodhope Baptist Church.
Her granddaughters claim that growing up, Mrs. Lola sent them to every Vacation Bible School she knew about in the Lake area.
A visitation in honor of Lola’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 from 1pm-3pm at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Forest, MS. Funeral Services will follow in the chapel. A graveside service will be at Goodhope Baptist Cemetery. Brother Dan Henry will officiate the services.
Pallbearers will be: Jesse Woods, Daryll Gibbs, Jeff Carlisle, Teddy Ray Bennett, Scottie McMillan, Alex Harrison, Phillip Parker, and Billy Anderson
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Pete Boykin, Brent Hammons, Steve Brown, and Bill Brown.
Ott and Lee of Forest is honored to serve the Kelly family in their time of need.
