Mr. Lonnie Ben Stephens, age 97 and a long-time resident of Scott County for over 60 years, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson following a sudden illness.
He was born in Kemper County to his parents James Allen Stephens and Ophelia Ann Matilda Warren Stephens Turnage. Mr. Stephens was a retired tractor mechanic, who enjoyed front porch sitting watching passersby and loved his dogs. He will be remembered for the love he had for his family and attended the Lighthouse Church at Lake. He had been a resident of the Mississippi Care Center at Morton for the past two years.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife: Mrs. Erma Stephens; three children: Jackie Stephens, Beatrice Harrell, and Henry Stephens and one grandchild.
Survivors include four children: Sue Harrison, Sarah Huff, Glenda (Allen) Jordan, and Johnny Stephens; one son-in-law: Paul Harrell; one daughter-in-law: Phyllis Stephens; one sister-in-law: Bertha Truelove; eighteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and two nephews.
Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Tal Vardaman, chaplain of MS Care Center at Morton, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Morton Memorial Gardens under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Friday, October 18, 2019, at the funeral home and from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm on Saturday prior to the services.
Serving as pallbearers will be John Sebek, Benny Harrison, Andrew Stephens, Mac Jordan, Chris Stephens, and Joseph Stephens.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Lonnie Huff, Gage Huff, Noah Huff, Jeremiah Jordan, and Corey Harrison.
Ott & Lee Funeral Home, 295 East First St., Forest, served the Stephens family.
