Lorene Paris, 75, passed away Thurs. Feb. 14, 2013 at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held Sat. Feb. 16, 2013 from 10am.-11:45am. at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral Services are 12pm. on Sat. Feb. 16, 2013 at the funeral home with burial to follow in the Crestview Memorial Gardens in Brandon, MS.
Lorene was born in Gundy, VA on Feb. 16, 1937. She and George moved to Mississippi in 1970. Lorene worked as a secretary for Naval Intelligence Service while in Virginia and with the USDA Crop Insurance until her retirement in 1992. Although Lorene excelled at many types of handwork, quilting became her passion. Her applique was flawless and she won many awards and ribbons for her excellent work. Floral applique was Lorene’s favorite and she strove to make each flower realistic. Since she was not satisfied with a project until this was accomplished, her finished quilts were works of art.
Her volunteerism was evident by her willingness to serve on many projects through her quilt clubs. Her quilts were given away to family, friends, and as donations. Her involvement in the clubs developed into many close friendships.
In 2010 Lorene was honored as a Legacy Quilter by the Mississippi Quilt Association. She was a founding member of Quilters by Heart’s Desire and Mississippi Quilt Association and an active member of Jackson Quilters, Brandon Quilters and Rankin County Quilters.
Mrs. Paris is survived by her husband, George Paris Jr. of Brandon, MS and her brother, Jerry Nuckles of Millsboro, DE.
