Lorraine Oakman

Lorraine Grantham Oakman, a longtime resident of Jackson and Florence, Mississippi, passed away Friday, May 18, 2018, on her birthday at the age of 91 years old.

Lorraine was the daughter of the late Ray and Saleta Edwards Grantham.  She was born on May 18, 1927, in Memphis, TN, Moving to Jackson, MS at a young age.

Lorraine Grantham was employed at Filtrol Corporation, now Englehard-BASF, Jackson, MS, holding various positions over the years until her retirement of 30 years.   She was a longtime member of Marvin United Methodist Church in Florence, MS, and a member of the close knit Mary Bozeman class.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two beloved brothers, Robert (Bob) Grantham of Jackson, MS and Jasper (Jack) Grantham of Pensacola, FL and Kodak, TN, as well as her  husband, Robert W. Oakman; step-son, Walter Oakman and her kitty cats, Puff and Crystal which were her companions for 18 years.

Lorraine is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Scruggs Morris of Brandon, MS and Patricia Scruggs Fiongos of Houston, TX; step-daughters, Cathy Oakman Doty (Howard) and Ellen Oakman Schell (Jeff) of Florence, MS; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews with whom she had strong, loving relationships.

A practical joker who kept her friends and family on their toes, Lorraine will be remembered for her humor and quick wit.

The family expresses sincere gratitude to her caregivers Anita Meeks, Joyce Knott and Charlene Majors who were an integral part of her life over the last ten years.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. on Monday, May 21, 2018, at Marvin United Methodist Church in Florence, MS, with a Celebration of Life will follow at 3 p.m.  Burial will follow in Florence Cemetery.
