Lurlene B. Hicks, age 102, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Mississippi Care Center in Morton. Visitation was held 9am-1pm Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton. Funeral services were held 1pm Saturday, October 21, 2017 from the Ott & Lee Chapel in Morton with burial in Line Creek Baptist Cemetery. Bro. Tal Vardaman officiated the services. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
Lurlene was born in Scott County on December 30, 1914. She loved gardening and enjoyed working in her blackberry patch. Lurlene was a wonderful cook and baking bread was a favorite of hers. She loved helping people anyway she could and her accomplishments and values of almost 103 years of her life will never be forgotten.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dan Burgess and Fan Lindsey Burgess; and all her siblings.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were Peyton Courtney, Kyle Courtney, Clark Burgess, Ethan Harrell and Jason Moore.
Honorary pallbearers were Sam Fortenberry, Jr. Fortenberry, Mack Johnson, Buddy Johnson and Lindsey King.
