Lynette Calvin Lewis, 91, formerly of Brandon, passed away in Honolulu, HI on Oct 10, 2016. Visitation is 5-8 pm Friday, October 21, 2016 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon and 10 am Saturday at Galloway UMC in Jackson. Services will follow at 11 am Saturday at the church with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Lynette is survived by two sons, Edwin H. Lewis, Jr. and his wife Lourdes, of American Canyon, CA, and James Lewis and his wife Nobleza, of Honolulu, HI. She is also survived by one grandchild, Alison Lewis, as well as her brother, Mr. John E. Calvin of Houston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, and two siblings, Mabel Calvin and James Calvin and his wife Ann.
Lynette was born in Houston, MS on Aug 2, 1925 to the late James Calvin and Mary Ann Davis Calvin. Following graduation from Houston High School, she moved to Jackson, and worked as a secretary for the Methodist Church. She married Edwin H. Lewis in 1950, and lived in West Jackson until 1962. She and her family moved to Yorktown Heights, NY in 1962 where she lived for 11 years, before the family relocated again to California in 1973. She lived outside San Francisco until Ed’s retirement in 1982, when he and Lynette returned to Mississippi to be near relatives and friends. They settled in the Crossgates area of Brandon where for the last 34 years Lynette was an active member of Galloway United Methodist Church, and a longtime volunteer at the Rankin County Medical Center
