Malcolm Cennett Massey, Jr., 79, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus on July 5, 2016.

Malcolm was born in Ethel, MS on November 26, 1936 and raised in Jackson, MS. Together with his wife, Carolyn, he owned and operated Beatty Street Grocery, a downtown Jackson landmark, for over 60 years. He greeted every customer with a smile and always told them, “Things are better now that you are here”. He delighted in encouraging them to come back “soon and often”.

Malcolm was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of 58 years, Betty Carolyn Massey. He was a wonderful father to daughter, Mary Harden and her husband Ed; daughter, Lisa Massey; son, Kevin Massey and son, Kent Massey and wife Julie. He was the fun loving and much adored grandfather of Blair and Skylar Harden and Zach, Melanie, Spencer and Logan Massey. He is also survived by a brother, Jessie K. “Buddy” Massey (Gina); 2 sisters, Marie Massey Carter (H.L.) and Jeannie Massey Rosen (Jeff) and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Massey was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm C. Massey, Sr. and Jewel Turner Massey; nephew, Hunter Massey; and a brother, Jimmy D. Massey.

Malcolm was kind, loving, caring and giving. As his family, we knew that any one of us could call him at any time and he would respond with, “Yes, just tell me where and what time to be there”. He blessed us every day and he will be greatly missed. We loved our Daddy and Pappaw, but we are reminded that we will be with him again one day and until then he remains forever in our hearts.

The family invites everyone to a celebration of Malcolm’s life at 3:00PM Saturday afternoon, July 9, 2016 at Brandon Baptist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Additional visitation hours are from 5:30 to 7:30 Friday evening July 8, 2016 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS Graveside prayer will follow the service Saturday at the White Oak Cemetery in White Oak, MS.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS or to Brandon Baptist Church.
