Mamie Cochran Johnson Sage, 96, Cumming, GA, died on December 9, 2011.

She is survived by her three children: Jackie Upton and her husband Harry Upton and their two children Mark Upton and Erin Upton Hendricks; Dottie Pennington and her husband Glenn Pennington, M.D. and their children Andrew Pennington and Jennifer Pennington; and Ray E. Johnson, M.D. and his wife Barbara Johnson and their five children Stephanie Johnson Ouellette, Matthew Johnson, Christine Johnson, Michael Johnson, M.D., and Anne Marie Johnson. She also leaves behind ten great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, E.L. (Jack) Johnson and her second husband, Joe F. Sage.

She was born in McLain, Mississippi and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi. She taught third grade for twenty-five years, mainly in the public school district of Forest, Mississippi. She moved to Clinton, Mississippi in 1979. A devout Christian, she joined the Clinton Baptist Church where she was an active member, participating in The Joymakers, an award-winning senior choir under the leadership of Minister of Music, Bill Bacon. She enjoyed studying the Bible and taught Sunday School in her home churches until she was 94 years old. She loved gardening, both flowers and vegetables, and enjoyed flower arranging and playing dominoes with her friends and family.


The funeral service will be held at Cumming First United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2011 Interment will follow on Tuesday, December 13, at 10:00 a.m. in the Eastern Cemetery in Forest, Mississippi. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and on Monday from 9 a.m. until the hour of service.


Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory, Cumming, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.


Ott & Lee Funeral Home of Forest, MS will be providing Graveside Services at Eastern Cemetery in Forest, MS.
