Marcelle was born February 15, 1927, near Forest. She was the oldest of seven and was predeceased by her parents, Marzell Webb and Alice Lou Graham Webb and her sisters Gwen Taylor of Morton and Mary Alice Stroud of Laurel.
She led an adventurous life that took her far away from Forest to live among people from many different cultures and then returned her home to the family that she loved.
She was an athletic and ambitious young woman, named All State forward in basketball in 1948 while attending East Central Junior College and received a degree in accounting from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1950.
One of her first teaching positions led her to Columbia, where she met her husband John on the basketball court. They were friends first, and their relationship deepened into a love and marriage that sustained them for sixty-four years.
John’s enlistment into the Air Force in 1952 led them out of Mississippi to Japan, Guam, and Hawaii, as well as several other states in the continental USA.
Wherever they went, Marcelle embraced the culture, made deep and lasting friendships, and provided a comfortable and well-ordered home for her family.
Some of the best years of their marriage were in Hawaii, where John was called as a Minister of Education to a Southern Baptist church there. She supported his ministry by teaching, serving in the church, and opening her home to members of the church and many others in the community.
She was grateful when God led them home to Mississippi in the last years of her life. She was with her family once again, embraced by their deep and loving bonds.
She faced the challenges of her life with humor and resiliency. She always believed that she could choose to live a joyful life, and could share that joy with her many friends and family.
She is survived by her husband John, her daughter Cari, her sisters Jimmie Everett, Sue (Junior) Graham, and Terry (Don) Hall, her brother Wayland Webb, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Forest Baptist Church Medical Missions.
