Margaret Ann Smith Johnson, 91, of Brandon, Mississippi, joined her Heavenly Father and was reunited with her husband on February 9, 2025.
Margaret was born on May 22, 1933, in Scott County, Mississippi, to John Clark Smith and Annie Myrtle Everett Smith. She graduated from Good Hope High School in 1951 and East Central Junior College in 1953. Margaret married her soulmate, A.T. Johnson, Jr., on November 13, 1954. She was most proud of the P.H.T. (Putting Him Through) Degree that Mississippi State University awarded her for working to support her husband while they lived together in the married dorm as he earned his degrees from MSU.
Together, Margaret and A.T. had two children. She was a homemaker until her children started school, then returned to Blue Cross and Blue Shield, where she worked before marriage, and later retired after more than twenty years of employment.
Margaret was a member of the Eastern Star Organization of Scott County. She and her husband were dedicated members of Riverside Independent Methodist Church in Flowood, Mississippi.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, A.T., who passed in 2017 after nearly sixty-three years of marriage. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by brothers, John Mavis Smith, Clyde Alvis Smith, and Heron Aaron Smith, and one sister, Evelyn Smith Porter.
Margaret is survived by her son, Aldewin T. Johnson, III (Susie), and daughter, Amy Johnson Ward (Greg), four grandchildren, Sloan Chesney Blay (Quinn), Wade Chesney (Olivia), Jenna Johnson, and Kerry Johnson, and her newly born great-grandsons, Colin Ross Blay and Bennett Ryan Chesney, whom she was so proud she got to meet before her passing. Margaret is also survived by one sister, Peggy Smith McDill (Kendall), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to thank Gloria Thompson and Crystal Chiles for the loving care they gave to Margaret in her final years.
