Marjorie Ball Gibson Brandon
Marjorie Ball Gibson, 86, left her earthly home on November 17, 2011, to be with her heavenly Father. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00AM Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Richland United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 10:00AM prior to the service. Interment will follow in Lakeland Place Memorial Gardens in Flowood.
Marjorie, affectionately known as Mamaw to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was born in Greene County, MS, on June 1, 1925, to David Knox Ball and Minnie Breland Ball.
She graduated from the Leakesville City School as class salutatorian at the age of 15. In college, she met the love of her life, Welbur Gibson, and after World War II, they married and started a family business together in Laurel, MS, which they operated for the next 25 years. When they retired they traveled the United States and Canada for 35 years in their Airstream Travel Trailer. They also enjoyed attending gospel sings throughout the South.
Marjorie was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Laurel, where she was the treasurer of the United Methodist Women for 15 years. After many years in Laurel, the Gibsons relocated to Brandon to be closer to their daughter, granddaughter, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years; daughter Patsy Burks and husband Shay of Brandon; granddaughter Ashley Clark and husband Ronnie of Brandon; grandson Craig Burks and wife Jennifer of Birmingham, AL; grandson Drew Burks of South Lake Tahoe, CA; five great-grandchildren: Lochlan, Jay, Silas, and Merrie Afton Clark of Brandon, and Ada Grace Burks of Birmingham, AL; brother Lynn Ball of Eugene, OR; and niece Lillian Dungan of Hurley, MS.
She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers and sisters.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Laurel or to Richland United Methodist Church. Please visit www.ottandleefuneralhome.com to sign the online guest register.
The family wishes to send a heart-felt thanks to the staffs at St. Catherine’s Village-Sienna 2 and Odyssey Hospice. Their comfort and care made this transition much easier for the family. Our beloved Mamaw lived a full and joyful life in Jesus Christ, and we, the family, claim the Apostle Paul’s words that “…to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
