Marjorie Dell Collier Beasley passed away peacefully at Summerfield Assisted Living in Hammond on Sunday night at the age of 91. She was surrounded with love from her family by her side. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 4 (9AM-11AM) at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon with a memorial service immediately following. A private graveside service will be at Brandon Memorial Cemetery.
Marjorie was born in Jackson and grew up in Pelahatchie, MS. The family moved to Louisiana in 1966. She later moved to Brandon. Her last years were spent in an assisted living community in Hammond LA to be near her sons who were her pride and joy.
Marjorie was a retired educator having served most of her for 30+ years in public schools in Livingston Parish, LA. She received her Bachelors of Science degree from Mississippi College, her Masters of Arts degree from Southeastern Louisiana University and attended Louisiana State University where she received a Masters +30 Graduate Hours. Marjorie taught English and Social Studies, was a reading specialist and school librarian, as well as being certified in Administration and Principalship.
Besides being a loving wife and mother, she was a devout Christian, loved her Lord Jesus Christ and daily spent time with Him in prayer and reflection. She was an active member of Brandon Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and member, led and participated in Women’s Bible Studies, served on numerous committees and had a heart for Missions, supporting projects such as Giving Tree and Christmas Shoebox. Marjorie had a passion for traveling, was an avid Bridge player whereby she especially enjoyed the socialization it provided. She was civic minded and active in her community, having served as president and secretary of her Home Owners Association and was a Hospice Volunteer.
Proceeded in death by: husband, Jimmy; parents, Vista & Sidney Collier; sisters, Nell Mashburn, Melba Collier and granddaughter Shelly Beasley.
She is survived by her sons Jim, Collier (Mickey), Duke (Paula) and Billy (Char): grandsons Cooper Beasley, Cory Beasley (Peyton) and granddaughters, Ashley Beasley, Skyler Beasley, Summer Beasley, Sierra Beasley and great granddaughter Cadyn; sister, Ann Gifford and brother Sidney Collier (Casey) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Brandon Baptist Church Or Hospice.
