MARKEY M. RUSHING

Markey Murphree McMurry Rushing, a homemaker, died Friday, September 30, 2011, after a lengthy illness. Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton is in charge of arrangements. Visitation was held 2-5pm Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton. Funeral service was held 1pm Monday, October 3, 2011 at Springfield Baptist Church in Morton with burial at 2:30 pm at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson.
Mrs. Rushing, daughter of Mr. J.J. Murphree, Sr. and Vera Brower Murphree, of Brandon, was born March 12, 1918. She graduated from Brandon High School and attended Draughn’s Business College. Retired in 1981, she worked forty years in the service of Deposity Guaranty Bank in Jackson.
In 1946, she married John R. McMurry, a pilot during and after WWII. They resided in Jackson. Mr. McMurry died in 1978. She later married Wendell Rushing of Morton. Mr. Rushing died in 1993. Mrs. Rushing continued to live in the Stage Rd. community, south of Morton, until moving to an assisted living facility in Forest in 2010.
Markey Rushing was predeceased by brothers, Vernon and J.J. Murphree, Jr., and sisters, Sara Grace M. Thompson, and Gladys M. Sprague. She was also predeceased by her niece, Kathy Jordan Wilbourne, she is survived by younger sister, Vera M. Jordan, of Brandon, a great -nephew, David Jordan Wilbourne, of Calera, AL, a great-niece, Joy Wilbourne Butorsky, of Brandon, and four step-daughters, Wende R. Lichte, of Vienna, VA, Patricia R. Townes, of Augusta, GA, Marguerite R. Cagle, of Marietta, GA, and Rebecca Wall, of Augusta, GA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity or to Springfield Baptist Church, Morton, MS where she was a member. She was formerly a member of the Ben Fatherre Bible Class at Galloway Methodist Church in Jackson.
A kind, loving woman, Mrs. Rushing will be missed by all who knew her.
