Mrs. Marta Francis Craig Franklin, age 92 went home to eternal glory August 17, 2015 at the Mississippi Care Center in Morton. Funeral services were held at 11:00 am, on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at the Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton with the Rev. Matt Armstrong and Rev. Paul Smith officiating and the interment following at the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Forkville, MS. Visitation was held from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at the Funeral Home in Morton.
Marta was a native of Scott County and born the precious daughter of James (Jim) and Gertrude Leona “Coward” Craig on June 12, 1923. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church for many years where she was a Sunday School teacher for many decades. She was also a strong supporter of the Women’s Missionary Union, and a member of the Homemakers of Forkville. Marta loved her family and she enjoyed working in her flower beds, garden and fishing along with cooking. One of her family members mentioned, “and did she ever love to cook.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, James (Jim) and Gertrude Leona “Coward” Craig; and her husband of 67 years, Mr. William Cloys Franklin; her sister, Zenobra (Noby) Shoemaker; brother Garnett Duke (Buddy) Craig.
Marta is survived by her sons, Randy Franklin and Mark (Sandra) Franklin; brother Jimmy Dale (Ann) Craig; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Pallbearers who served were Mike Tisdale, Paul Douglas Craig, Jimmy Rhodes, Brian Craig, Billy Rhodes, and Dan Craig.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
