Martha Albright

June 23, 1922 — January 22, 2012

Martha Elizabeth Albright, known to her family as Marbeth, and to her many friends as simply Beth, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 22, 2012. Beth fell on January 10, seriously injuring her head, and spent almost two weeks in ICU before succumbing to the injury.


Beth was born in Scott County, Mississippi on June 23, 1922, oldest daughter of O.T. and Myrtis Gilbert. In December 1942 she married Jack Albright, her childhood sweetheart, shortly after he graduated from Officer Candidate School as a second lieutenant in the U. S. Army Air Corps Signal Corps. Once Jack returned to the U.S. after WW II, the two of them began their many travels with the military, and stayed on active duty until April 1976, when Jack retired as a Major General. Throughout that time, Beth set the perfect example as an officer’s wife. She was a phenomenal cook, an easy companion to chat with , and she personified southern hospitality for everyone she met. She and Jack were perfect life partners, and they had been married for over 64 years when Jack passed away in 2007.



Beth is survived by two children, Michael Albright, , who lives with his wife Sandy in Athens, Tx., and Daphne Brown, who lives with her husband , James Brown Jr., in Germany, and is assigned to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center as a Department of Defense Civilian. Beth is also survived by four grandchildren, James Albright, David Albright, Laura Rohman, and James Brown III; six great-grandchildren, Christian Albright, Bailey Albright, Jack Rohman, Justin Rohman , Paige Rohman , and James Brown IV; three siblings, Weems Gilbert and Tommy Gilbert of Forest, Mississippi and Jacqueline Hord of Raleigh, Mississippi; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.



A memorial celebration of Beth’s life will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at the chapel of Ott and Lee Funeral Home, in Forest, Mississippi. The service will be held at 11:00 A.M. , and will be preceded by visitation with the family from 9 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers , donations in Beth’s name can be sent to Carr Methodist Church,C\O Mrs . Jeanne Finch, 15525 Highway 501, Forest Ms. 39074. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery,
Arlington, Va.
