Martha Ann Shute Ensign, 81, of Pelahatchie went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, after a lengthy illness. Services will be held 11am Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Pelahatchie Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 9am-10:45am at Pelahatchie Baptist Church. Graveside will be held at Floral Hill Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS following the service at the church. Rev. Spencer Sullivan will lead the services. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
Martha was born on August 13, 1941 to the late Ernest and Ida Mae Shute of Coila, MS. She graduated from JZ George High School in Carrollton in 1958. She married, Dwight L. Ensign, Jr. on July 24, 1959. Dwight and Martha started their life together in SE Louisiana where Martha worked at First Guaranty Bank in Hammond. They moved to Pelahatchie in 1972 where Martha worked for M&H Manufacturing for a short time before going to work as a charter employee of Bank of Pelahatchie, which is now Priority One Bank. Martha retired in 2005 after 30 plus years of service. She was a faithful member of Pelahatchie Baptist Church. Martha loved to sing in the choir and served as church clerk for several years. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
Martha was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Dwight; grandchild, April Ensign; siblings, Burnease Shute, Leola Elizabeth Shute Pentecost (Husband - James Pentecost), Ernestine Shute Bass (Husband – Milton Bass), Irene Shute Fortinberry (Husband – George Fortinberry), Marion Augustus Shute (Wife – Leola), Margaret Shute.
Martha is survived by two sons, Dwayne (Betty) of Pelahatchie, MS and Michael (Robin) of Laurel, MS; five grandchildren, Amber Neary (Patrick), Kayla Ensign, Holly Ensign, Silas Ensign and Bethany Ensign; one great-grandchild, Connor Neary; sibling, Josephine Shute Watson (deceased Husband – William E. Watson, Jr.) and a host of friends.
Martha loved her family, her friends and above all, the Lord.
