Martha was born in Rankin County on September 17, 1949. She was a lady that was difficult to find the words to describe. She was tough, but gentle. She never failed to tell you precisely how she felt, good or bad, yet always had the right words to comfort you. Martha never forgot an occasion and could rattle off family history like she was reading it from a book. Her nails and toes were always polished and her hair was always perfect. She was as particular as they come, especially when it came to balancing a checkbook or arranging furniture. Martha knew what she wanted but she would sacrifice everything for her boys. And above all, she loved the Lord. Martha loved camping and watching the two grandsons play baseball. She loved her family very much and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
When Martha took her last breath she was surrounded by her husband, Drew, of nearly 48 years, Brian, Kevin, Megan and Jeannie. For the past two days, so many of her family and friends came to see her and share their love for her that the room couldn’t hold us all. She knew she was loved. All of us family knew she could hear us sharing stories, jokes, laughs and memories around her bedside. Even the day Martha passed and felt so bad she still had her sense of humor. We as family know we have one heck of a guardian angel looking after us all now.
Martha served as secretary of the Pelahatchie Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary for several years. She was named as the Auxiliary’s Member of the Year in 2012 and was a faithful supporter of the fire department.
