Mrs. Martha R. Lindsay, a native of Scott County, born February 5, 1924, remembered by her family as one of America’s Greatest Generation, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Baptist Medical Center – Leake at the age of 95. She lived a life dedicated to her faith, family, and friends. Her career path lead her to longtime service with Bell South Telephone Company, as a telephone operator. She enjoyed crocheting and cooking, as well as creating ceramic pieces and working in her yard. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church at Walnut Grove.
She is preceded in death by her husband James D. Lindsay, Sr.; her parents: L.Q. and Lela Harper Roberts; four sisters: Mary R. Lay, Hazel Mae Roberts, Frances Teal and Irene Welch and two brothers: George W. Roberts and John Mark Roberts.
Survivors include: one son: James Lindsay of Walnut Grove; three grandchildren: Terra Lindsay, Heather Bowden, and James “Bubba” Lindsay; five great-grandchildren: Halley Buffington, Hayden Gray, Holden Gray, Dennis Bowden, III, and Jonicah Bowden and one great great grandchild on the way; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home where funeral services will follow in the chapel at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Harperville Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church or to the favorite charity of one’s choice.
