Marvin Earl Elliott was born June 30, 1940, in Morton, MS, and died May 6, 2013, in Jackson, MS, at age 72.

Marvin spent his childhood in Burns, MS. As a freshman in high school, he moved to Forest, MS, where he excelled in sports, but more importantly, watched his Mother and Father devote their lives to teaching, which certainly influenced his life and future endeavors.

After graduating from Forest High School in 1958, he attended the University of Southern Mississippi and graduated from Mississippi College with a Bachelor of Science degree.
He earned a Masters of Chemistry degree from the University of Mississippi in 1965 and later completed advanced studies at Florida State University, University of Tennessee at Oakridge and Mississippi State University.

After meeting the love of his life at Forest High School, he married Sarah Ruth Mills in 1960. Together they embarked on a life that led them both in to pursuing their passion for teaching. At his first stint in Greenwood from 1962 – 1964, Marvin taught chemistry and physics. Moving to Clinton, MS, in 1965, Marvin became a professor in the Chemistry Department at Mississippi College. In 1969, Marvin started his second tenure at Greenwood High School, where he taught his eventual primary doctor, Al Steele. He moved to Pillow Academy in Greenwood in 1972 and in 1979 finished his teaching career at Washington School.

In 1979 Marvin embarked on a new career as he moved into the investment brokerage business joining the Dean Witter Reynolds office in Greenville. Through his investment career of 26 years, he served his numerous clients at Paine Webber, EF Hutton and AG Edwards.

God gave Marvin the gift of developing relationships, whether it was in his career or through his work in serving the Lord. He was raised in a Christian home and his love for the Lord was evident throughout his life. Whether he was serving as a Deacon in Greenwood, serving as a lay minister and interim pastor to several Mississippi Delta communities or serving as a Sunday School teacher for the Young Married Adult ministry of First Baptist Church in Jackson, Marvin was devout in his faith and belief.

Marvin continued creating relationships through his hobbies. He was a photographer, spending many numerous weekends on the sidelines of an Ole Miss, Mississippi State or Southern Miss football game. He loved the sports, from his Atlanta Braves to the NASCAR races. Perhaps more than those hobbies, though, was his passion for model trains. He loved collecting, restoring, and building layouts for his Lionel trains. He was the President of the Jackson Society of Model Engineers.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah; son, Michael, and his wife, Gina, of Dallas, TX; and daughter, Michelle Leslie, and her husband, Andy, of Hattiesburg, MS. Marvin’s four grandchildren are Lauren Leslie of Portland, OR; Brent Elliott of Vernal, UT; Samantha Leslie, Hattiesburg, MS; and Reagan Elliott, Dallas, TX. His brother, Robert (Bob) and his wife, Marilyn, live in Wetumpka, AL. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Clemmie Elliott of Forest, MS.

Pallbearers are Allen Mills, Prattville, AL; Lewis Mills, Prattville, AL; David Mills, Prattville, AL; Andy Mills, Birmingham, AL; Brent Elliott, Vernal, UT; and Rob McKay, Prattville, AL.
