Marvin Robbins Carter, age 79, a resident of Brandon, MS passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at Brandon First United Methodist Church in Brandon, MS. Visitation will be held 4:00pm-7:00 pm Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS and 10:00 am Wednesday at the church.
Carter grew up in the south Rankin County community of Antioch and graduated from Puckett High School in 1960. After attending Hinds Community College, Carter graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Poultry Science in 1965. Carter established Robin Carter Farms, a cattle, poultry, and forestry operation, in 1967. The Carter family has been farming in Rankin County for over three generations.
Carter was very active in the community and served on numerous boards and committees. Carter served as the Commissioner of the Rankin County NRCS board and was a board member of the Rankin County Farm Service Agency for over 30 years. Carter was also a past board member of the Rankin County Cooperative, Federal Land Bank, and East Rankin Academy. Carter was influential in county and state politics as host of the South Antioch Supper Club for over 25 years.
Carter accepted Jesus Christ as an 11-year-old and was baptized on family land. For the past twenty years, Carter attended Brandon First United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
In his free time, Carter enjoyed hunting, golf, attending Mississippi State University athletic events, and spending time with his family.
Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Carter and Inez Robbins Carter; sister, Chesteen McCaskill; brothers, Cecil Payne and Howard Payne.
Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Cecie Hall Carter; his children, Chester Lavoy Carter (David) and Chance Carter ( Chrysler); three grandchildren, Campbell Carter, Bradley Carter and Bennett Carter; and a host of other family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church of Brandon or to the Methodist Children’s Home.
