Mary Carr

April 17, 1927 — July 24, 2015

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Allen Carr will be conducted Sunday afternoon, July 26, 2015 at 3:00 PM from the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eugene Banes officiating. Interment will follow in the Carr Methodist Cemetery in Smith County under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.


Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 2:45 PM prior to the funeral service.


Mary Allen Carr was born April 17, 1927 in Smith County, to her parents, the late John Allen & Billie Marie Dennis Carr. She passed away Friday, July 24, 2015 at Lackey Memorial Hospital at the age of 88.


Mrs. Carr was the news correspondent for the Carr Community News in the Scott County Times and the Smith County Reformer for many years. Favorite past times in the prime of her life were tending to her flowers, cooking, and most of all writing poetry. Great joy was always expressed when she gathered with her family, especially her grandchildren and brothers and sisters. She was a longtime member of Carr United Methodist Church.


She was preceded in death by her husbands: Milton Earl Goodson and Charles David Carr; one daughter: Mary Annette Harmon; one grandchild: Ferrell Harmon; her parents: John & Billie Marie Carr; one sister: Vida Joyce McKenzie and one brother: James Allen Carr.


Survivors include: one daughter: Doris Marie (Steve) Beech of Newton; one son-in-law: Leo Harmon of Lake; five grandchildren: Sheryl Harmon Thompson, Tanya Harmon Tanner, Michelle Harmon Poole, Lisa Beech Elgin, and Lee Beech; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three sisters: Billie Goodson of Forest; Barbara Hawthorn of Columbia and Frances Baldwin of Raleigh; and one brother: Gerald Carr of Pearl.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Carr Methodist Church, or to the Shriner Children’s Hospital, 3100 Samford Ave., Shreveport, LA 71103.
