Family and friends were invited to celebrate the life of Myrtle Elizabeth Comeaux DeFoore, 94, of Brandon. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 26, 2017. Visitation will be held on Wed. Nov. 29, 2017 at 9:30am and services at 10:30am at Ott and Lee Funeral Home, 1360 West Government Street, Brandon, Mississippi. Burial will be at the Sidon Cemetery under the direction of Ott and Lee Funeral Home.
Mrs. DeFoore was born September 14, 1923, in Algiers, Louisiana to Viola Mary Campbell Comeaux and Mauleon Joseph Comeaux. After graduating from Behrman High School, she met Judson Glynn DeFoore in New Orleans who was stationed there while serving in the United States Navy in World War II. Married on February 6, 1946, Myrt and Jud enjoyed forty-nine years together raising three daughters Ann Elizabeth DeFoore, Memory Lynn DeFoore Cox and Kim Judson DeFoore Rowlen.
For many years, she was employed by the Veterans Hospital in Jackson and later faithfully volunteered at Rankin Medical Center and the Mississippi Museum of Art. Myrt and Jud enjoyed many hobbies and interests together including playing bridge, fishing, square dancing, bowling, traveling and camping. Family was most important to them, and Myrt will always be remembered as saying she just wanted “everyone to be together.” She loved people and was deeply loved by them.
Myrt was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Madison where she served as a volunteer in the library. Later she joined First Baptist Church of Brandon where she served as a greeter. She loved her church especially Bible classes and the Senior Citizen activities. Even her illness could not alter her loving and pleasant attitude towards life. Her sweet and dignified spirit epitomized her Christian faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Judson Glynn DeFoore of Jackson and Sidon, Mississippi, her parents Viola and Mauleon Comeaux, and a brother James Comeaux. She is survived by a sister Norma Claire Comeaux Liggio (Charles) of Lake Charles, Louisiana, three daughters, Ann Elizabeth DeFoore of Brandon, Memory Lynn DeFoore Cox (John) of Greenville and Kim Judson DeFoore Rowlen (Dennis) of Brandon; four grandchildren, Memory Lynn Cox Craig (Chism) of Hernando and Amy Catherine Cox Wilson (Whitt) of Oxford; Reverend William Chandler Rowlen (Leah) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Anna Judson Rowlen Fowler (Bradley) of Brandon; four great grandchildren, Sarah Scott Craig and Charles Chism Craig III of Hernando, Ava Elizabeth Wilson and John Payne Wilson II of Oxford.
The family is forever grateful for the loving care provided by her constant companion for the past seven years, Jane Richardson, who loved Myrt like a mother. Special thanks are extended to other dedicated caregivers Elmira Williams, Debra Sanders, Sharon Parker, Laperial Brown and employees of Compassus Hospice. The family appreciates the visits, prayers and concerns from members of Crossgates Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Brandon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Jud DeFoore Scholarship Fund for Seminary Students care of Mississippi Baptist Foundation, P.O. Box 530, Jackson, MS 39205.
