Mary W. Horowitz, age 89, a resident of Carthage, died Thursday December 8, 2011, at Bethany Hospice in Madden following a short illness.
Graveside services were conducted at 12 noon Saturday December 10, 2011 from the Hayes Creek Baptist Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5pm to 8pm Friday, December 9, 2011 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home of Forest. Rev. Smith Sanders officiated the services, and her nephew Jim Johnson, Jr. read some of her favorite scripture passages.
Mrs. Horowitz was born on August 24, 1922 to Costello P. Wright and Florine Denson Wright in rural Scott County. She attended school and later married Berk Horowitz and was a homemaker. She was an active member of Tuscola Baptist Church where she was always engaged in helping friends and neighbors. Family and friends alike will miss her walks and talks about flowers and scenes of nature in her yard and garden. She was most appreciative of God’s handiwork in the beauty of the countryside and forests in the community where she lived. She was a kind, gentle, compassionate dear Christian lady who always had a kind and encouraging word to everyone who encountered her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Dick Wright and Clyde Wright.
Mrs. Horowitz is survived by one son, Mark Horowitz of Forest, three sisters, Claudine W. Denson of Lena, Billie Smallwood of Canton, and Barbara Johnson of Jackson. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Andrew Horowitz and Emily Horowitz.
Pallbearers were Jim Johnson, Richard Young, Mike Wright, Edgar Brown, Bob Hodges, Jerry Thomas, and Bob Young.
Services were provided by Ott & Lee Funeral Home of Forest.
