Mary Kate Knight, age 86, and a lifelong resident of Pelahatchie and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church died Monday, September 13, 2021 at Merit Health/River Oaks Hospital in Flowood, MS.
Visitation will be held from 9am til 10:45am at the Church at Shiloh, with the funeral service beginning at 11am with interment to follow in the Shiloh Cemetery. Reverend Gary Knight, Brother Booth Poole, Brother Gene Banes and Dr. Gene Henderson will officiate.
She was born in Rankin County on December 31, 1934 to Eulyce and Pearl Martin Harpe. After graduating from Cross Roads High School, she became employed with General Electric, and the railroad as a billing clerk in Jackson, MS. She later married the love of her life, Lee Edwin Knight, Jr. on April 12, 1961. He brought her home to the family farm to be a loving wife, later a mother, grandmother who was a wonderful homemaker.
Mary Kate, known to many as “Tissie” or “Rat” as she loved her back-porch visits by sharing a bottled coke and nabs to all who came by. Life was complete with her grandchildren, chapstick, toothpicks and boiled peanuts. Mary Kate & Lee Edwin made a life and home together where everyone was welcome. She always said she was blessed by God with a wonderful life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Eulyce & Pearl Martin Harpe; loving husband of 55 years, Lee E. Knight, Sr. and her siblings, Helen V. Lawrence, Bobbie Sybil Boone, Altus Rhodes, Jack W. Harpe and A.C. Harpe.
She is survived by her son, Randy Lee Knight (Mary) of the Shiloh Community; daughters, Renae Knight and Carlotta (Charles) Edwards of the Shiloh Community; 2 grandchildren, Rachel Knight & Christina (Jared) Bragg; a host of friends and other family members.
Pallbearers are Robert Warren, Richard Warren, Alan Robinson, Kurt Rhodes, Lem Adams and Joe Johnson.
Memorials may be made to the Nativity of Missions Fund at The Church at Shiloh, 2394 Shiloh Road, Pelahatchie, MS 39145.
