Mary McMillan Knowles was born at Forest on Saint Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1953 and entered into the eternal rest with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, on December 20, 2018 surrounded by her loving family, following an extended illness.
A celebration of life service for her friends and family will begin at 2:30 pm on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at the Ott & Lee Chapel. Interment will follow in the Good Hope Cemetery at Lake immediately following the celebration service.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the funeral home and from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm on Sunday prior to the service.
Mrs. Mary will be remembered as a dedicated Christian witness of the Lord Jesus, sharing His love with those that crossed her path on this journey. She loved her family very much, and was proud to be called “Granny” to her grandchildren’s friends. She enjoyed fellowship with her church family at East Forest Baptist Church, and her selfless character and willingness to help others will be evidenced for generations to come. A highly intelligent individual, and avid reader, Mrs. Knowles was a graduate of Scott Academy at Harperville, and an honor graduate of East Central Community College at Decatur. Her “sparkling personality and soul”, as well as her “young at heart” sentiments echoed the description of the reference as “firecracker woman,” quotations that help describe her character.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Emmitt & Clinnie Griffin McMillan; two sisters: Helen McCurdy and Romana McWilliams; three brothers: Leon, Samuel, and Kenneth McMillan; and two brothers-in-law: Edward Street and Bobby Loyd Sessions.
She is survived by her husband of over 44 years: Edward J. Knowles; her loving daughter: Shasta (Adam) Young; two grandchildren: Alison and Christopher Young, all of Forest; four sisters: Merlene Street of Lake; Kathy (Bo) Giles of Forest; Rhoda Sue Young of Purvis and Irma Sessions of Forest; one brother: James (Delilah) McMillan of Forest; one sister-in-law: Margaret McMillan of Forest; two brothers-in-law: Frank McCurdy of Morton and Dale McWililams of Forest; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
