Mary Elizabeth Ogletree Allen 89, of Jackson, MS passed January 25, 2019 after an extended stay at Jaquith Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 12:00pm at Ott and Lee Funeral Home, Brandon. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until service time. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Mary was born to Andrew Ogletree and Lela Page Ogletree May 20, 1929 in Morton, MS as the youngest of 6 children.  She graduated from Morton High School in 1949 where she was a cheerleader and was named Miss Morton.  She married the love of her life, Thomas Edward Allen, March 18, 1950. Mary and Tommy moved from Mississippi to Washington State where Tommy was in the U.S. Air Force. Mary returned to Mississippi while Tommy was stationed overseas in Guam a few months after the birth of their only child in 1953. When Tommy returned home in 1955 from his overseas tour in the USAF, they lived together in Jackson, MS. While in Washington State, Mary began working for the Bell Telephone Company and stayed with them after returning to Mississippi until her retirement in September 1985. While with the Telephone Company, Mary held several positons including Operator, Coin Telephone Office, and Equipment Management. Mary enjoyed having reunions with her Morton High School classmate friends and kept in touch with them until she went into the nursing home. Mary was a member of Alta Woods Baptist Church.

She leaves her only child, John Michael “Mike” Allen and his wife Rhonda Everett Allen, as well as a favorite niece and nephew, Julie Thompson Flint and Jimmy Flint. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Edward Allen as well as three brothers Emmett, Andrew, and John and two sisters Rachel and Aliene.

Mary and Tommy loved to travel and after they both retired they were particularly fond of Panama City Beach Florida. They would take their beloved Chihuahua “Chico” there and spend months at a time at the beach.
