Mary Louise Webb, 93, beloved wife of the late David W. Webb Jr. died Tues. Oct. 29, 2013 at the Brandon Court Nursing Home in Brandon, MS. A graveside service will be held at 10am on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 at the Brandon Memorial Gardens in Brandon, MS. Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS is handling the arrangements.
Mrs. Webb was born in Iola, Kansas on March 2, 1920. At the age of seven, her father was transferred to Louisville, Nebraska where she attended school and graduated from the Louisville High School. During this time she loved playing the clarinet in the high school band, the city band and the Ash Grove Cement Company band. She also taught the kindergarten Sunday School class at the Louisville First Methodist Church, where she was a member for her “growing up years”.
Mrs. Webb received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Nebraska Wesleyan University and a Nursing degree from Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was a Registered Nurse in Nebraska, Wisconsin and Mississippi. During WWII she traveled to Richmond, Virginia where she married Lt. David W. Webb Jr. who was stationed at the Richmond Army Air Base. When he was sent overseas, she returned to Lincoln, Nebraska where she worked at Bryan Memorial Hospital as a medical and surgical supervisor until her husband returned from Italy. She was then employed as an office nurse in the offices of Drs. Harvey and Garlinghouse while her husband completed his education. Mrs. Webb also served on the local school board for 5 years and was a leader of the Brownies and Girl Scout Troops. In 1947 they moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where their two children were born. In 1969 they moved to Marshfield Hills, MA when her husband was transferred to the Boston, MA plant and transferred again in 1973 to Jackson, Mississippi.
Mrs. Webb was a longtime member of the Brandon First United Methodist Church. Through the years she enjoyed travel and RV camping throughout the country. Her hobbies included quilting, counted cross stitch and other decorative sewing. She often made her own clothing and was also an avid reader.
Mrs. Webb is survived by her daughter, Eleanore Webb (Lola Thomson) of Marietta, GA; her son, David Webb III (Joy) of Sun Prairie, WI; six grandchildren, Holly Sarver, Peter Abrahamson, David Webb IV (Jessica), Steven Webb, Erin Webb, Lisa Webb and two great grandchildren, Gavin Sarver and David Webb V. She was also preceded in death by her brother, John E. Burtch of Kansas City, MO.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brandon First United Methodist Church or the Salvation Army.
