Mary Alice Duhs

November 1, 1925 — October 15, 2015

Mary Alice Lindsey Duhs, of Brandon, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 15, 2015.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m., on Monday, October 19, at Lakeland Presbyterian Church, Flowood, Mississippi. The family received friends at Ott and Lee Funeral Home, 1390 West Government Street, Brandon, Mississippi from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 18.

Mrs. Duhs was born in Macomb, Illinois on November 1, 1925 to Albert and Bernice Lindsey. She graduated from high school In Detroit, attended Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, and graduated from Wayne University in Detroit, Michigan in 1948.

Mary Alice married Robert Carl Duhs on Easter Sunday, April 21, 1946, at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Detroit with her father officiating. They were married for 64 years until he preceded her in death in September, 2010. The couple spent several years in Tacoma, Washington, while he worked as a youth minister at First Presbyterian Church. They were called to Westminster Presbyterian Church in Vicksburg, Mississippi in 1955. Their service to the Lord continued with pastorates at First Presbyterian Church in Biloxi, Mississippi; Lejeune Presbyterian Church in Coral Gables, Florida; and Brandon Presbyterian Church in Brandon, Mississippi where Bob retired in 1991. Mary Alice also accompanied him as he served as interim pastor for eleven churches in Mississippi.

Mary Alice was very active in all four churches where Bob pastored, particularly with women's programs, Sunday school, and Bible memory. She taught Sunday school for 50 years. She taught in the public schools in Biloxi and worked in real estate in Brandon. Throughout her life, Mary Alice enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking and ceramics. She did her best to follow God's laws and was a true prayer warrior. Her greatest joy was knowing her children and grandchildren would follow God's teachings. Her favorite verse was III John 1:4, "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in the Truth."

Mary Alice Lindsey Duhs is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert Carl Duhs. She is survived by her four children, Michael Duhs (Robin) of Houston, Texas; Deborah Griffith (Gary) of Euless, Texas; Becky Chaplin (Carl) of Buford, Georgia; and Lindsey Duhs (Kim) of Brandon, Mississippi. She and Bob were blessed with seven grandchildren, Lori Benoit (Joe) of Hutto, Texas; Eric Duhs of Houston, Texas; Ellis Chaplin (Kristen) of Great Falls, Virginia; Rob Chaplin (Lucie) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Mary Carolann Chaplin of New York City, New York; Seth Duhs (Roberta) of Madison, Mississippi; and Carlee Duhs of Brandon, Mississippi. They also have seven great-grandchildren. Mary Alice is also survived by her brother David Lindsey of McComb, Mississippi.
