Mary Charlene Coleman Way, age 74, a resident of Pelahatchie passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at her residence. Visitation will be held 5-9pm Monday, January 18, 2016 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton. Funeral services will be held 2pm Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the Ott & Lee Chapel in Morton with burial in Barefoot Springs Baptist Cemetery. Bro. Jerry Holmes and Bro. Bill Prestage will officate the services. Arrangments are entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
Mrs. Way was born on December 6, 1941 in Mendenhall, MS. She loved to read, go shopping and travel. Charlene loved her church and the people of the church at Barefoot Springs Baptist. She was a very active member and loved to sing, taught Sunday School and served on many other committees. Charlene was a very skilled writer that expressed her thoughts and ideas in writing poetry. She loved her family very much and will be greatly missed by all that loved and knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, John Harvey Welch and Glenn E. Way; parents, George Ray Coleman and Helen Lyon Coleman and sister, Gale Pittman.
She is survived by her son, John David Welch of Pelahatchie, step son, Eddie Way (Esther) of Richland and adopted daughter, Connie Harvey of Richland; 3 sisters, Frances Smith (James) of Mendenhall, Jean Coleman of Raymond and Rita McCrory of Louisiana; 2 brothers, Stan Coleman of Pelahatchie and Ray Chalk (Darlene) of Richland; 4 grandchildren, Jamie, Rachel, Rebecca and Jessica; sister-in-law, Ruth Way; adopted daughter-in-law, Laura Smith; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers serving are Rex McCrory, Jerry Henry, Marshall Brewer, B.J. Harvey, Cole Kendall, and Ray Chalk. Honorary pallbearers serving are the Barefoot Springs Baptist Church Leadership Committee.
