Mary Frances Kennedy Comfort, 86, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at her residence. Visitation is 9 am Friday, February 3, 2017 from the College Street Campus at First Baptist Church in Brandon. Services will follow at 11 am Friday at the church with burial in Brandon Memorial Gardens. Dr. Gene Henderson will officiate.
Mrs. Comfort was a native of Gulfport and a resident of Brandon since 1952. She was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi in music and was also a member of the Southern Band. Mrs. Comfort became band director and taught music in the Brandon School System and later retired from the Rankin County Welfare Department. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Brandon and a past member of the Choir, Senior Adult Ministry and was a former member of the Jackson Symphony.
Survivors include her daughters, Jane Murphey (Charlie) of Brandon and Jo Hegwood (David) of Brandon; son, Lee Kennedy (Cathy) of Brandon; grandchildren, Anna Owens (Brian), Laura Werne, Natalie Cantin, Keri Kennedy, Chris Hegwood, Taylor Hegwood and Nick Hegwood; great-grandchildren, Ella Owens, Parker Owens, Dawson Hegwood, Brynn Hegwood, Katie Rae Parker, Hunter Hegwood, Brianna Martinez, Hunter Rigdon and Colton Rigdon. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Dan Henry Kennedy in 1989 and Mervin Comfort in 2012.
