Liz, as she was known by everyone, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas S. Wallace of Leake County. Growing up, she attended Lena Baptist Church and graduated from Clifton High School. Liz met Harold Bennett when she was sixteen. Playing basketball one evening, Liz caught Harold’s eye. “Who is that black-haired girl?” Telling friends, Harold said “I got to know that lady.” They were later married at the preacher’s house in Pelahatchie, MS.
Liz and Harold moved to Jackson where he took a job at Armstrong World Industry before going overseas. Liz worked outside the home on and off in the early years of their marriage and while Harold was in Japan and Korea. After Harold returned home in 1954, they were stationed in Tennessee. Their only child, Norman was born in 1955 and the family moved to Jackson, MS where Harold resumed his job at Armstrong. They lived in Jackson for thirty-eight years and attended Oak Forest Baptist Church where they had many friends.
Liz went to work at Stein Mart in Jackson and retired from there in 2009 after twenty-five years. She met many people through her job and was loved by all. After forty-one years, Harold retired from Armstrong and he and Liz moved to Brandon where she lived out the rest of her days helping Harold in the garden and growing her beautiful azaleas. They attended First Baptist Church of Brandon and loved attending Sunday School. She was a loving and kind woman, always ready to help anyone in need. Liz could often be found knitting sweaters or baby blankets and booties for premature infants. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved being a part of their lives. Liz was a loyal friend and was loved by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents and great grandson, Brandon Bennett.
