Mary Jenell Pittman Sellers departed this life on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016, from 9 am until 10:45 am at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. A service celebrating her life will be held at the funeral home at 11 am Saturday, with burial at Brandon Memorial Gardens following the service.
Born on January 5, 1929, in Sumrall, MS, Mrs. Sellers was the daughter of Earl Luther Pittman and Nancy Azzie Pittman. After graduating from Sumrall High School in 1947, she moved to Hattiesburg to begin working for Bell Telephone Company. She married J. L. Sellers on September 11, 1949, and began a union that spanned 56 years and included a son and two daughters. Mrs. Sellers was totally devoted to her husband and her family and was a wonderful cook and immaculate homemaker. Her homemaking skills formed the basis of many family gatherings. She also loved working in her yard and garden and particularly loved blooming flowers of all varieties. Prior to moving to Brandon, Mrs. Sellers was a longtime member of Main Street Baptist Church in Hattiesburg. She had a strong faith in God and Jesus Christ as her Savior.
Mrs. Sellers was predeceased in death by her husband, J. L. Sellers; her parents; and two brothers, Earl Luther Pittman, Jr. and A. C. Pittman. She is survived by a son, James Grant Sellers (Madora), and two daughters, Nancy Kaye Sellers and Deborah Carol Thompson; grandchildren, Mary Buchanan Sellers, Kaylee Ann Thompson and Sydney Marie Thompson; sister, Lana Pittman Schafer; brother, Kenneth Paul Pittman; as well as other family members. She leaves behind a small extended family, grieving at her departure, but grateful for her life. Her family loved her deeply, and she will be greatly missed.
