Mayrene Messer

May 9, 1921 — March 21, 2018

Mayrene was born May 9, 1921 to Rosalie D’Antoni Tuminello and Anthony Tuminello Sr. in Clarksdale, Miss. She died at her residence on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Mayrene was pre-deceased by her husband, Raymond G. Messer, Sr., siblings John Tuminello, Richard Vincent Tuminello, Doris Mansour, Anthony Tuminello, Jr. and one Great Grandson, Philip P. Clark. She is survived by her sister, Pal Shapley, One Sister-in-Law, Lola Tuminello (Anthony), four children-Rosanne Horn, Martha Messer, Raymond G. Messer, Jr (Jackie) and David Lamar Messer. Mimi, as she was known to her family, was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Mayrene was raised in the Mississippi Delta during the depression and never passed up an opportunity to let someone know how frugal she was because of the hardships she endured during those times. This was a Badge of Honor that she proudly wore.

Mayrene married Raymond G. Messer, Sr in 1943. Ray was a pilot in the Air Force and during his 27 years in the military, they were fortunate to have been able to travel all over the US, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. After retirement, they made several trips to Europe, Italy and Sicily, where Mayrene’s parents and family was from. She was very pleased to have been able to find the house where her father had been raised as a child, prior to coming to America.

The two most important things in Mayrene’s life were her Catholic faith and her love for her family. These strong values were instilled in each of her children. Our mother was as close to being a Saint as we will ever see and her love for her family was unquestionable, even to a fault.

Visitation will be held at St Paul Catholic Church in Flowood on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 9 AM with a Funeral Mass to follow at 10AM. Graveside services will be held at 3PM at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Greenville, Miss.

Pallbearers will be Raymond G. Messer, III (Trey), Jon Cory Messer, Richard Vincent Messer, Anthony Tuminello III (Trey), Richard Shapley, and Marshall Mansour.
