Mazie Dye
Mazie Marie Cooper Dye, a native of Morton, Mississippi, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 19, 2019, at the age of 96. Mazie was born on July 26, 1922 in Morton, Mississippi to the late James Leon Cooper and Sarah Elizabeth (Bessie) Winstead Cooper. Mazie pursued her education at Clark College and Mississippi College and worked as a secretary for the Fred Moore Company. She was a lifelong member of Springfield Baptist Church where she taught a young adult Sunday School class for many years. She also served as the church treasurer until her health prevented her from continuing this ministry. Throughout Mazie’s entire life, she loved and poured into many young people in her community. She loved and cherished her children and grandchildren. Her family will miss her dearly, but they will be comforted by the 23rd Psalm, one of Mazie’s favorite passages. We can walk in assurance that our Good Shepherd is near to us, leads us through adversity, and restores our souls. We rejoice today that Mazie’s faith has been made sight!
Mazie is survived by her four children, Bill Dye and wife Carol, of Oxford, Mississippi; George Dye and wife Zane, of Atlanta, Georgia; Sarah Lewis and husband Robert, of Livingston, Louisiana and Leon Dye and wife Charlene, of Brandon, Mississippi; 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Sarah Cooper; husband, William Dye; 2 brothers J. Winstead Cooper and Spurgeon Cooper and her loving sister Audrey Wood.
