Melenda Perlia McAlister, age 61, a resident of Pelahatchie, died with her mom and sister by her side, Friday, September 7, 2018 following an extended illness.
Memorial Services will be held at 10am Monday September 10, 2018 at the Pelahatchie Baptist Church in Pelahatchie. Rev. Tal Vardaman will officiate.
Private interment will be held at Springhill Cemetery near Pelahatchie.
Melenda was born on May 23, 1957 in Hattiesburg, MS to her parents Edwin R. McAlister and Peggy Walters McAlister. She was a member of Pelahatchie Baptist Church where she worked in the Nursery every Sunday until her health declined. She was a loving sister, aunt and great aunt. She loved collecting anything representing Coca-Cola such as vintage signs, bottles, coolers, etc. Melenda had retired as secretary to the director of surgery at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was a gentle loving, caring person and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edwin R. McAlister.
Survivors include her mother, Peggy W. McAlister of Pelahatchie and a sister, LaDonna Thompson of Brandon. She is also survived by her niece. Renee Joyce Nester and her husband, Jake; nephew, Jay Thompson and his wife, Sarah Catherine Thompson, niece, Molly Kuhn and Kendall Kuhn, three great nephews, Wes Nester, Jacob Thompson and Cross Thompson, one great niece, Laken Nester. She also leaves behind a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pelahatchie Baptist Church, 300 Church Street, Pelahatchie, MS 39145.
