Our beloved mother was surrounded by her loving family as she passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 18, 2010. She was born in Fort Necessity, LA on May 22, 1923.
Mother is remembered for her sweet, quiet nature, her ageless beauty and her love of family and friends. She engaged in a fascinating array of hobbies such as fishing, which she did with the patience of Job; working crossword puzzles, gardening and cooking for her children. Meleter loved her family and loved life. She was a deeply devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother who displayed unlimited generosity to everyone and always helped those around her to find the positive things in life. She loved her Lord and studied the Bible scriptures daily. She will be missed dearly by those she left behind.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, Ufa C. Pennington; her parents, Illar Randolph Keen and Henry Keen; two brothers, Elton Keen, Lennis Keen; one sister, Flossie Keen Shires; one grandchild, Jonathan McBride; and one great-grandchild, Gabrielle Lisonbee.
She is survived by six children, Clara Pennington McCall of Brandon, MS; Eugene Pennington and wife Evelyn, of Pelahatchie, MS; Donald Pennington and wife, Karen, of Newellton, LA; Wayne Pennington and wife, Judy, of Hattiesburg, MS; Ronnie Pennington and wife, Glenda, of Brandon, MS, and Patricia McBride of Madison, MS. She is survived by 18 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by two brothers, Spencer Keen of Boyd, TX and James Edward Keen of Fort Worth, TX.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ricky McCall, Randy McCall, Ty Pennington, Shaun McBride, Chance McCall and Clint Pennington. Honorary pallbearers will be grandson, Regie Pennington, currently stationed in Afghanistan and Robbie Quick.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the physicians and staff of Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon, MS and Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland, MS for their care, compassion and understanding during her illness. Also a special thanks to her church family and many friends.
