Melvin Comans

Melvin James Comans, age 84, a resident of Lawrence, died Tuesday January 29, 2013 at the St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson following an extended illness.

Funeral services were conducted at 10am Friday February 1, 2013 from the chapel of the OTT & LEE Funeral Home in Forest with interment in the Eastern Cemetery. Visitation was held from 6pm-9pm Thursday. Rev. Paul Demoney and Rev. Victor Bugg officiated the services.

Mr. Comans was born in rural Neshoba county to James D. Comans and Gladdis Loper Comans on March 8, 1928. Later he met and married his wife, Jennie Moore Comans. They lived in the Harperville area and later moved to Lawrence. Mr. Comans was a very successful farmer, known and loved by all who knew him. He was always helping people, loved his children and family deeply. He was a faithful member of the Lawrence Baptist Church, a member of the Gospel Travelers Quartet, and a member of the George D. Riley Masonic Lodge # 605.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Madria Withers, Joann Withers and Margarete Harrington; two brothers, Dee Comans, Jerrel Comans; and a son, Larry Comans.

Mr. Comans is survived by his wife Jennie Comans; four sons, Melvin Gene Comans (Lee) of Lawrence, Dwight Comans (Bobbie) of Forest, James D. Comans of Standing Pines, Jamie D. Comans (Susan) of Denver, CO. and a daughter; Betty McCormick (Hardy) of Forest. He is also survived by a brother; Malcolm Comans and a sister Lorene Withers both of Carthage.
Mr. Comans also leaves a legacy of 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Pallbearers were Chad Hillman, Greg Luke, Edward Street, Blake Luke, Travis Martin, Durwood Knowles, Jeremy Bryant, Cliff Richardson, Butch Barton and Billy Frank Smith.
