Melvin Rademacher died Sunday at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland surrounded by his loving family. He was 62.

Mel was born on September 2, 1947 in Clinton, Oklahoma. His family moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1960 where he attended Romulus High School and met the former Laura Marie Dowling - his devoted wife of 43 years.

After high school, Mel was awarded a full football scholarship to Central Michigan University. After completing his education, Mel worked for Ford Motor Company in Pontiac, Michigan. He then began his career in the foodservice industry as a salesman with Kraft Foods in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1977, Mel transferred to Mississippi as a sales manager with Durkee Foods. He subsequently managed sales forces for Sanderson Farms, Seaboard Corporation, Koch Poultry, Peco Foods and Amy Foods.

Mel and Laura made their home in Brandon where they raised their three children. He loved Mississippi and often spoke of how blessed he was to live here.

Mel's first priority was his family. He was always in attendance at sporting events and school functions for his children and for his grandchildren. One of the accomplishments of which he was most proud was making sure that all three of his children graduated from college. His final life goal was to provide a place for future generations of the family to enjoy the outdoors together, which he and Laura accomplished with the purchase of the family farm in Little Rock, Mississippi in 2005. Besides his family, Mel's greatest loves were deer hunting and hard work on the family farm.

Mel is survived by his loving wife Laura, his daughter Renee Matney of Brandon, his son Erik Rademacher of Madison and his son Kurt Rademacher of Canton as well as by 7 grandchildren: Brian Dyess of Starkville, Mark Dyess, Corey Dyess and Lindsey Matney of Brandon, Madison Rademacher and Bailey Rademacher of Madison and Duncan Rademacher of Canton. He is also survived by his father Melvin Rademacher of Jackson, his brother Rodger Rademacher of Clark Lake, Michigan, his sister Sherry Mastropietro of Livonia, Michigan, his sister Terry Rice of Louisville, Kentucky, his sister Denise Vaughn of Louisville, Kentucky, and his sister Stacy Arnold of Okeechobee, Florida.

Visitation will take place Tuesday May 11 from 5pm to 8pm and Wednesday May 12 from 9am to 11am at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Funeral services will take place at 11am on Wednesday May 12 at Ott and Lee with a graveside service to follow at the family farm in Little Rock.
