Mr. Melvin Smith, age 73, a resident of Pelahatchie passed away on Monday, November 17, 2014 at University Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation was held 11am-1pm Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton. Funeral service was held 1pm Thursday from the Ott & Lee Chapel in Morton with burial in Barefoot Springs Cemetery. Dr. J.T. Laird officiated the services. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
Mr. Smith was born in Rankin County on May 5, 1941. He loved to be outdoors hunting and fishing. He was one of ten children of the late Woodrow Wilson Smith and Sara Ann Renfrow Smith. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
He is survived by his siblings, Mary Burnham (Henry) of Pelahatchie, Betty Strebeck of Sumrall, Jeanette Wilson (Jerry) of Bruce, Ruth Johnson (Rob) of Kentucky, Elmo Smith (Carmen) of LA, W.T. Smith (Hazel) of Pelahatchie, Nelson Smith (Ruthie) of Florence, Owen Smith of VA and Johnny Smith of MS; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorials may be made in his honor to Barefoot Springs Cemetery Fund.
