Merl Jones

July 18, 1924 — January 14, 2013

Merl Madden Jones, age, 88, a resident of Lake, died Monday January 14, 2013 following an extended illness.


Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30pm Thursday from the OTT & LEE Funeral Home chapel in Forest with interment to follow at the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5pm to 8pm Wednesday. Rev. Ken McLemore and Rev. Mike Everett will officiate the services.


Mrs. Jones was born in Scott County on July 18, 1924 to Wesley Madden and Ophelia Gomillion Madden. She graduated from Sebastopol High School. She worked for the Bank of Forest for 32 years. She was an active member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church until its recent closing. She then joined the First Baptist Church of Lake. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Jones loved her family, having them over for her wonderful meals, and entertaining everyone who visited her home. She was a member of the Forest Supper Club, loved playing dominoes with family and friends. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and cross-stitching. Mrs. Jones will be greatly missed by her family and friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother; Connie Madden and two sisters; Helen McDill and Margie Madden.


Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Leon Jones of Lake, two sons; Carl Jones (Ann) of Pontotoc, MS. Ted Jones (Nelda) of Lake, MS. one brother, W.B. Madden, JR (Frances) of Forest, two grandchildren; Amy J. Wilkins and Bailey Jones; and two great-grandchildren; Tyler Wilkins and Allie Wilkins. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.


Pallbearers are Danny Harrison, Tyler Madden, Bailey Jones, Morgan Madden, Brian Wilkins,Wes Madden, Johnny Jones and Billy Wayne Lott.

Honorary pallbearers are Robert Wilkerson, Byron Hollingsworth, Joe Goodson, Jerry Hegwood and Leo Harmon.
