Milford Gordon Bayliss, Jr

Milford Gordon Bayliss, Jr., affectionately known as Buddy, was born on March 13, 1937, in Arkansas. He passed away on November 19, 2024 in Richland, Mississippi. Buddy proudly served his country in the U.S Navy during the Cambodian Civil War  where he was on the UDT (underwater demolition team) and later was a dedicated member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, where he earned the title of a 100-ton boat captain.

Buddy had an accomplished career. He retired from the Jackson Fire Department in 1992, where he distinguished himself as a Captain and the Director of Fire and Safety Education program. In addition, he owned and operated a pest control business since 1970. His passion for service extended to his role as a long-time minister, serving many churches in Mississippi and south Alabama. He was currently serving at Edwards United Methodist Church, where he was loved by many and he loved them as well.

Throughout his life, Buddy enjoyed a variety of activities. He was proud of becoming an airplane pilot and had a love for boating, scuba diving, and running. He completed several full marathons, culminating in a remarkable achievement when he finished a full marathon at Disney at the age of 76.

Buddy leaves behind a loving family. He is survived by his wife, Verna Bayliss; his children, Milford Gordon Bayliss, III "Trey," Marshall Scott Bayliss and wife Tomeka, and Jason Palmer; his sister, Beverly Bayliss; along with five grandchildren, Chelsey Bayliss Oswalt, Sara Bayliss, Katey Bayliss Houston, Tyler Bayliss, and Blake Bayliss; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Bayliss, his father, Milford Gordon Bayliss, Sr., and his mother, Evelyn Pearl Church Bayliss.

A visitation will be held for Bro. Buddy on November 30, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Richland Methodist Church, located at 250 Richland Circle, Richland, MS. Following the visitation, a memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM to celebrate his life.
