Funeral services for Mimi Jean Cooper Moore will be conducted Sunday, March 15, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. from the Springfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Wilson and Rev. William Savell officiating. Burial will follow in the Springfield Cemetery under the direction of Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until 3:15 p.m. at Springfield Baptist Church.
Mimi Jean Cooper was born January 3, 1926 to Luther Edgar and Edna Measells Cooper of the Independence community. She passed away Friday, March 13, 2015 at Woodland Court Personal Care in Newton at the age of 89. Mrs. Jean was a member of Springfield Baptist Church where she was a faithful member.
Preceding Mrs. Moore in death are her husband: Rev. Elton Moore; her son: Lowery Moore; her parents: Luther and Edna Cooper; and one sister: Amy Cooper Beard.
Mrs. Moore attended Morton High School, Clarke College in Newton and graduated from Mississippi College with degree in English and later graduated from Jackson State University with a Specialist Degree in English. She taught English in Newton County and Rankin County Schools for over 40 years.
She met her late husband, the Rev. Elton Moore while in college.
After they married they served the Lord in many Baptist churches in Mississippi. In the early 1950’s, Rev. and Mrs. Moore with their son, Lowery, embarked on the Mission Field that took them to Indonesia where they served as missionaries for many years.
Upon her retirement from the Rankin County School system, Mrs. Moore once again left the United States for Anhui Provence China. She served seven years teaching Conversational English at Anhui University in China.
Survivors include her immediate family: Cooper & Becky Beard, Jessica Beard-Derrick, Evan Derrick, Jerami Beard, Duncan Beard, Dusty Beard, Alexandria Warren, and Benjamin Beard, all of Morton; one sister-in-law: Eva Moore of Shreveport, LA; two brothers-in-law: Ned Moore of Paducah, KY and Mark Moore of Newton; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers are her nephews: Cooper Beard, Duncan Beard, Evan Derrick, Bill Beard, Dan Beard, Lee Beard, and Charles Godwin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Springfield Baptist Church, 3285 Springfield Rd., Morton, MS 39117.
