Mrs. Bernice Ragsdale, age 90, a resident of Morton passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Mississippi Care Center in Morton. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 4, 2021 from 2pm-3pm at New Liberty Baptist Church and services will follow at 3pm at the church. Graveside services will be at New Liberty Baptist Cemetery. Bro. Paul Smith and Bro. Tal Vardaman will officiate the services. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
Mrs. Ragsdale was born in Morton, MS on January 11, 1931. She loved working in her flowers, looking at the trees, listening to the birds and just enjoying the beauty of nature. Bernice was a hard worker and believed in family values and family morals. She loved to cook, and family was bragging about her, “ambrosia, chocolate pie and roast.” Bernice loved her family and she will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jim Bates and Effie Hawkins Bates; daughter, Carolyn Sue Cole; siblings, Zettie Lee Summrall, Lona Mae Robinson, Minnie Parker, Oridus Harrell, Cleveland Bates, Bill Bates, John D. Bates, Dallas Bates, Jones Bates, Claude Bates and Elease Wallace; brother, Jeff Bates.
She is survived by her children, Danny Scott Carr (Faye) of MS, Renee Latham (Kenny) of MS; grandchildren, Angee Hanna (Mark) and Kayla Renee Latham Rich (Ryan); great grandchildren, Halee Banks (Rex) & Gatlyn Wade; great-great grandchildren, Van & Silas; nephew, Hal Bates (Von) and a host of other family members and friends.
