Nancy Jean (Reid) Stephens went to be with her Lord on November 4, 2021. She was born in Lauderdale, MS on July 25, 1935, as the eighth child in a family of 5 brothers and 5 sisters.
After graduating first in her class from Brandon High School, she was offered a scholarship to college but chose instead to be with and take care of her family — something she excelled at. She met Robert J. Stephens, and they were married on May 29, 1954. Together they had 4 children, Robert Bruce Stephens (Robin), Sue Stephens Nash (Jim), Gary Stephens (Amy), and Charles Stephens.
In addition to the children, they have 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Her passions in life were God, family, children, friends, cooking, the SEC, and especially, Mississippi State sports. She was a devoted prayer warrior, mother, and friend. Throughout the years, countless lives were changed through her ministry of helping others by opening her home, offering a listening ear, and cooking meals for people in need. Called “Jean” by friends, she never knew a stranger. A member of the Gideons Auxiliary, she always extended her compassion through prayer. Upon meeting someone, she would add them to her daily prayer list for the rest of her life.
The family is requesting no flowers be sent. Donations may be sent to Gideons International in Jean’s name.
She was preceded in death by her husband on May 8, 2011.
Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS, followed by a graveside service at 3 p.m. at Floral Hills Cemetery in Pearl, MS.
