Ned Darr Lantz, Brandon, MS


Ned Darr Lantz, 81, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2011 at his home in Brandon, MS with his family after an extended illness. A Celebration Service of the life of Mr. Lantz will be held at Ott & Lee Funeral Home, 1360 West Government St. Brandon, MS 39042 with Reverend Rob Gill officiating on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 3:00pm with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Lantz was born on a farm in Benton, IN. After completing high school in Goshen, IN where he was on the Varsity Football Team and working in the family business, Bick’s Plumbing and Heating, he joined the United States Air Force. While in the USAF, he was awarded the following commendations: National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Air Force Commendation Medal. He served nine years including a tour in Korea and Japan. His years of service took him to many places around the country and into foreign lands.

Mr. Lantz resided in the Brandon area since 1974 after relocating here with Sperry-Vickers (now Eaton Aerospace) in Jackson, MS. He retired after 34 years of service that again took him to places around the globe including Australia, England, Ireland and Greece. He retired after serving as the Product Service Manager working on all types of vehicles including submarines, tanks, aircraft carriers, and tankers.

He was a Mason for over 50 years as a member of Ligonier Lodge #185 of Ligonier, IN. Mr. Lantz’s skill of designing and building benefitted his family through numerous projects. Many of these projects will remain his legacy to his children and grandchildren. He also maintained church plant facilities over the years at various locations in which he and his wife lived. They are members of St. Marks United Methodist Church in Brandon, MS.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Velva Lantz of Millersburg, IN and his brothers Philip and Richard Lantz.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean Roberta Nicol Lantz; two children, Skylar Redmann and husband Douglas of Benton, AR; Wendy Lewis and husband Kirby of Brandon, MS; four grandchildren, Nicolette Skylar Redmann-Hall and husband Anthony, Jonathan Lantz Lewis, Christopher Lee Lewis, and Christina Holly Redmann and one great-grandson, Landon Paul Hall.

Burial will be at Soloman Creek Cemetery in Syracuse, IN alongside his parents and brothers.

The family of Mr. Lantz would like to thank the following for their love and compassionate care during his illness: Dr. David M. Sullivan, Dr. Bobby L. Graham Jr., Dr. Richard L. Yelverton Jr., the staff of St. Dominics Hospital, Reverend Rob Gill, St. Marks UMC, Hospice Ministries, INC. and Sitters, LLC.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to St. Marks United Methodist Church at 400 Grants Ferry Road, Brandon, MS 39047.
