Nelda Faye ShoemakerLudlowNelda Faye Shoemaker, 84, of Ludlow, MS passed away on Friday, April 1, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Visitation held from 5:00-8:00 pm Saturday and 1:00-2:00 pm Sunday at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton, MS. Funeral services were held 2:00 pm Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home with burial in Ludlow Cemetery in Ludlow, MS. Mrs. Shoemaker was an active member of Ludlow Baptist Church for over 60 years. She was born in Philadelphia, MS to Irvin L. Kelly and Naomi Fortenberry Kelly. She grew up in Edinburg, prior to the family relocating to Pascagoula, MS. Nelda Faye ShoemakerIn 1943, she became penpals with a soldier stationed in New Guinea, Philippines named Hubert L. Shoemaker. Upon his return in 1946, he rode a bus from Jackson to Pascagoula to meet his future bride. After three dates, they were married and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on March 2, 2011. She was one of the most kind-hearted, Christian ladies, who was known for her wonderful sense of humor. Even though she was 84, she was young at heart. She spent her life touching the lives of those who met her, whether it was a kind word or a joke that made you smile. She has left many wonderful memories that her family will cherish for years to come. She is admired by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by her loved ones. She is survived by her devoted husband, Hubert L. Shoemaker; her three daughters, Linda (Joel) Puckett of Ludlow, Judy (Dan) Smith of Raymond, and Janna (David) Gaddis of Forest; seven grandchildren, Brian (Karen) Davidson, Rhonda (Michael) Bradley, Chris (Leigh Anne) Crotwell, Shaun (Carmen) Crotwell, Jason (Tricia) Crotwell, Jennifer (Stacey) Kelly, and Jay (Beth) Riser; seven great grandchildren; five sisters, Marlene Arnold, Dean Pierce, Sue Tompkins, Dannis Crowe, and Sandra Whitaker; and a host of extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, I. L. Kelly; and sister, Patsy Jo Cory. Serving as pallbearers were Brian Davidson, Michael Bradley, Chris Crotwell, Shaun Crotwell, Jason Crotwell and Stacy Kelly. Serving as honorary pallbearer was SSgt. Jay Riser.
