Norma Jean Carr, age 86, a resident of Forest, passed away on Friday November 11, 2011 at the Mississippi Care Center in Morton following a short illness.
Funeral services were conducted at 3pm Sunday November 13, 2011 from the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Forest with interment in the Carr United Methodist Cemetery. Rev. Earl Clark and Rev. Gene Banes officiated the services. Visitation was held at the funeral home from 9am until the service time.
Mrs. Carr was born on September 20, 1925 in Plain Dealing, LA. Her parents were Marvin Barnette and Lydia Ward Barnette. After finishing high school, she worked in the Army Ammunitions Depot during World War II, where she met and married her husband, Lonnie Carr. They later moved to this area and became very active members of the Carr United Methodist Church. She worked for the Sunbeam Corporation in Forest where she retired in 1985. Mrs. Carr was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was very active in the community and was respected by all who knew her. She served as a Sunday School teacher, song leader and MYF leader. One of her favorite pastimes was her activities in the Norris Homemakers Club. She was also known by many in the community as a talented artist and a person who excelled at many crafts, as her works were beautiful and unique. Mrs. Carr will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 54 years, Lonnie, a son Larry M. Carr, and a sister, Betty Smith.
Mrs. Carr is survived by her daughter, Becky Martin and husband Pat of Morton, and a son, David Carr and wife Joyce of Forest. She leaves behind a legacy of four grandchildren, Patricia Heflin, Justin Martin, Kim Fargier, Ryan Carr and five great grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ryan Carr, Jeff “J.T.” Taylor, Doug Heflin, Robert N. Carr, Simon Fargier, Rich Wareing and Butch Barton.
Services were provided by Ott & Lee Funeral Home of Forest.
