Otis (Butch) Heard, age 71, died Tuesday, February 08, 2011, at his home surrounded by family. He was affectionately known as “Granddaddy” to his grandchildren and their friends. Visitation is 5-8 pm today at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Services are 10 am Friday at the funeral home with interment at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl.

Otis was born July 30, 1939, in Terry, MS. He was a member of Park Place Baptist Church, longtime resident of Rankin County, graduate of Central High School (’57) and Hinds Junior College.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Betty Claudine (Hawkins) Heard; daughters, Paula Heard Welch (G. L.), Joy D. Rhoads (Chuck), and Dr. Katherine Heard; grandchildren, Amber Heard, Brandie Welch, Christopher Rhoads and Phebe Jones; brother, Robert Heard (Margie) of Grand Prairie, TX; and a large extended family. Otis was preceded in death by his parents, Rayford and Dolly; brothers, James and Richard.

Otis proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1957-1960. He was also recognized for 50 years of continuous service as a Master Mason with South Union Lodge #193, Homewood, MS and a long-time member of Wahabi Shriners and
Scottish Rite.

Otis was a business owner, establishing Heat and Frost Industrial Insulation in 1975 and ISO Panels, Inc. in 1979 through which he formed strong business relationship with Ergon, Inc. After 26 years of hard work and dedication, Otis retired to spend more time with family and friends.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Tammy Young and staff at Jackson Oncology Associates and Odyssey Hospice Services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideons International, Brandon, or Calvary Baptist Building Fund, P. O. Box 111, Braxton, MS 39044.
